REGISTRATION OPENS SOON

The marathon, fun run and ride is held approximately 30km outside of Coober Pedy, in the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park.

The park is a registered Aboriginal heritage site and has special significance to its traditional owners. Picturesque land formations, a moon plain and the dog fence, make this an outback running experience like no other.

The event starts/finishes at the race hub on top of the main lookout, descends the escarpment and follows the gravel roads of the park.  There is a separate course for the children’s event.

Competitors may race with pushers and dogs on leads or ride their bikes, making this an event for the whole family. Competitors may also choose to enter as part of a team.

All events will be electronically timed by Event Strategies Pty Ltd with time results and certificates available online after the event.

The cooler June weather, make this a fantastic time to explore the outback and a great time to get active in the outdoors.

Competitors are encouraged to extend their stay in Coober Pedy and visit some of the town’s tourist attractions.

Getting to the event

For those who decide to drive a vehicle to the event, a parking area will be available. Please be aware that some traffic restrictions to the main lookout will apply between 12pm – 4pm due to the set up of the children’s fun run course. The Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park is accessed from the Stuart Highway. Directions can be found using Google Maps.

Bag drop

There will be a bag drop tent. It will be unsecured and not supervised – bags are left at own risk. Don’t leave valuables at the bag drop tent.

Drop-bag station for marathon runners

An on-course station will be designated for drop-bags (for marathon runners only). Drop-bags should be provided to the registration crew at the time of check-in. They will be taken to the station by race organisers.

All drop-bags must be clearly labelled with the competitor’s name.

Drop-bags will be returned to the start/finish hub at the conclusion of the event.

Bib pickup procedure

Electronic timing bibs must be picked up at the event. You will find your name and event number listed on the entry display boards. Pick up your bib from the check-in area.

Arrive at least 30 minutes before your event start time in order to allow plenty of time to pick up your bib.

If any of the details on your bib are incorrect, please go to the registration area and inform the crew.

Bibs should be fastened at waist height to the outside front of whatever top you will be wearing at all timing points. Do not bend, fold or damage the timing tag.

Make sure you bib is not covered by clothing or your hands when you go past the timing points.

If you lose your race number bib during the race you must go to the timing van near the end of the finish chute as soon as you cross the finish timing mat.

Drink stations, refreshments and free bbq

The checkpoints along the course route will have water, sports-drink and lollies. The 10km turn-around will have fruit.

Additional water and fruit will be available at the finish line.

A free barbecue to celebrate National Reconciliation Week will be held at the finish line. Competitors, supporters and spectators are all invited to attend.

An official photographer will be on the course. If you do not want your photo taken, cross your arms over your chest – either the photo will not be taken or it will be deleted from the files.
