FAQ

How can I get to the Kanku – Breakaways Conservation Park?

There will be courtesy shuttle buses running from DCCP to the lookout and return.  We are planning to have a bus leaving town at least every 30 minutes.  If you need help to arrange transport of your bicycle into the park please call the event organiser on 0499982999 before event day.

What time to I need to be at the start?

Registrations will be open from 9am.  You will need to ensure you register at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your event to allow time for you to get your number and to have your event competitor briefing 15 minutes before the start of the event.

How long is the maximum amount of time for the event?

All competitors must be finished by 4:30pm  Any competitors still on the course at 4:30pm will be picked up by an official as part of clearing the course prior to the roads being reopened.

What does my entry fee go towards?

Your entry fee helps with the cost of providing event timing services, infrastructure and medical assistance for the event.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes you can bring your dog but you need to ensure you have them on a lead at all times.  Any dog’s posing a nusiance will be removed from the park.  Note that if you plan to walk or run with your dog you will be starting at the back of the field to ensure the dog does not interfere with any other competitors.

How do I register?

Registrations can be made on the website www.sportitude.com.au/events/greatkanku-breakawaysmarathon

What if I register and can’t make it can I get a refund?

You can register and pay at District Council of Coober Pedy either by credit card over the phone or in person.  No refunds will be offered.

Can my children compete by themselves or do I need to accompany them?

Children under the age of 12 must have a responsible adult with them for the event.  For the childrens fun run the Coober Pedy Area School are assisting with the supervision of the event and can arrange supervision for your child while they are undertaking the event.

Can I change what length I am registered for?

Yes you can.  You can edit your registration and change the distance for which you are entered.  Unfortunately if you register for a longer distance and change back to a shorter distance with a smaller registration fee your fee will not be refunded.

Can I decide to do a longer length on the day once I am on the course?

No.  All distances must be finalised before you start competing.  There are different start times for each event based on the distance of the event.

Can I take my children in a pram in the event?

Yes you can take your non-competing children in the events.  They must be listed on your event registration and there is a special question on the registration form for that purpose.

What facilities and services will be available at the Kanku – Breakaways Conservation Park?

The Lions Club are providing a drink and food stall at the lookout which is where the start and finish line for all events will be.  There will be free water available at the first aid tent and in the kids activity tent.

The kids activity tent will provide activities for children of all ages in between events and cheering on competitors.

Will you have medical support on site?

SA Ambulance Service and a dedicated first aid officer will be on site at the event.

Why are you not providing a 42.2km ride this year?

Doing a 42.2km ride takes a significant amount of time.  It increases the amount of time that volunteers need to be on the course as the 42.2km ride would have to leave the start line an hour before any other event.  For 2018 the 42.2km ride is not being done but we are open to suggestions after this trial of the loop track in the Kanku-Breakaways Conservation Park.
